Sat 10-11-08 Jonesboro Firefighters Training for Any Situation

As Jonesboro continues to grow the abilities of the Jonesboro Fire Department have to grow with
it. The firefighters are working on a new training exercise. In the scenario they have
to find a downed firefighter when they can't really see where they're going.
"In case one of us gets inside a big building and gets disoriented then we're having this
training so we can get in there pretty quickly and try to recover the firefighter that's down,"
said Jonesboro Fire Department Captain Lance Harper.

Sat 10-11-08 House Fire with cats trapped
Powhatan County Fire Department - Powhatan, VA
On October 10th just before 11 am Volunteers Firefighters from Companies 2, 4, the paid crew
from Chesterfield Engine 5 and Truck 9 were dispatched on a reported house fire with animals
trapped in the 2400 block of Manakin Town Ferry Road. Tanker 1 was quickly added to
the Box as an extra Tanker. A retired firefighter, Jim Perdue was in
the area and arrived first to find a couch on fire in the living room and used a garden

Fri 10-10-08 New Hamburg Fire Chief Enthusiastic About Job

The Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department has a new chief leading the 21 man department. Chip LaCaze,
37, of Hamburg, officially took over the role on Wednesday, October 1. However, LaCaze said, he
began serving as fire chief one week before his official start date. "It's going to be
stressful, challenging, but I'm excited about it," LaCaze said. "I am going to do the best
job I can, keep my guys safe and provide protection to everyone in the county that needs it."

The department has added a few photos and a little bit of a history lesson with each picture thanks
to a former department member.
The Smithton Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Roger A. McGary who is former member at
Station 17 and is currently the Fire/Rescue Chief at Silver Springs Fire Department in Silver
Springs Maryland. Chief McGary has been a well of information regarding the department’s
history. Due to a fire in the 1970's a lot of photos and department history was destroyed.

Fri 10-10-08 Participating Department Status upgraded
The George G. McMurtry Vandergrift VFD 1 - Vandergrift, PA
With hours of hard work, training, preparation, and testing behind us the members of George G.
McMurtry VFD, Vandergrift # 1 recently received it's upgraded status as a Participating Department
in the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy's Certification Program.
Our original status was as a 10% certified level. The new status is 50% as we have over 20
personnel certified to standards recognized by the State Fire Academy, Pro Board Certification
Council, and NFPA.

The goal of open house is to educate the public espically children in the importance of fire
prevention. This is accomplished by dozens of displays including fire trucks, equipment, tools,

Thu 10-09-08 Fire Inspections Prove Crucial in Pine Bluff

While the emphasis during the annual observance of Fire Prevention Week focuses on school-age
children, Pine Bluff firefighters are also delivering a message to adults as well. Fire and
Emergency Services Department personnel have wisely adopted a proactive stance since Don Horton took
over as fire chief late last year. The number of local businesses inspected has increased, with
firefighters looking at ways to avoid a fiery disaster.

Ripley Fire Rescue - Ripley, Wv - Ripley, WV
Ripley Volunteer Fire Department went to several daycares and schools in recognition of Fire
Prevention Week. Children were taught the basics of fire safety and prevention, along with how the
have the fire department respond to there house and what to tell 911 operators.Students were also
shown what the fireman looked like when all geared up. Ripley VFD would like to thank all daycares
and schools for inviting us out, and giving us the opportunity to teach the kids all about fire

Thu 10-09-08 Weston, MA Firefighters Battle Fully Involved SUV Fire on Turnpike. Raw Footage
The Bravest Online - Spring, TX
This video was shot on the turnpike near Weston, MA. Weston is a paid department and responded to
this SUV on fire. They arrived to find heavy fire from the vehicle and worked quickly to extinguish
the fire. We posted this video to show how quickly fires move in vehicles, and not because no one
was wearing an airpack! Enjoy!

Sunset Fire and Rescue - Sunset, UT
Every SFD Firefighter and Every Sunset Resident should be keeping up on the Council movements
to obtain this land for the city. SFD would like to especially thank Councilman Ryan Furnace for
spearheading this effort. The Falcon Hill will benefit all of Sunset and its residents. Please come
to the MIDA boards and City Council meetings to help fight for it.
